ONE ENEMY
Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) French military leader and politician once said, “You must not fight too often with one enemy, or you will teach him all your art of war.”
This is also true in the spiritual sense. Paul, an apostle, wrote to the Ephesians: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age and against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Our art of war is to be ready for many enemies with many strategies and many weapons. Twice Paul advised in this chapter to put on “the full armor of God” to be fully prepared for battle. Don’t allow the enemy to know our strength or our strategies.
“Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace.” Jesus
