NOT MANY TEACHERS
The apostle James wrote, “Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.” Having done some teaching and writing through the years… I know there is a stricter judgment for me. I have done my best to be careful because I believe this judgment has as much to do with the here and now as it does in some kind of future judgment.
Like the Bereans mentioned in the Book of the Acts of the Apostles, the hearer and reader bear responsibility. It reads, “they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.” Everybody should check out what is being put out.
It is like Festus Haggen (Ken Curtis 1916-1991) the sheriffs deputy on ‘Gunsmoke’ once said, “I didn’t learn to read because if your readin’ someone else’s writin’, how do you know the feller your readin’ is writin’ the right readin’ for you to be readin’?
He had a point. We all have to check things out.
“But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers.” Jesus
