MODERN MEDICINE
I recently had another doctor’s visit. It has been 9-12 years since I have been seen by a doctor. I have been to see the doctor in that period of time but the doctor has not been to see me. He does not look at me. He wears a stethoscope around his neck for quick retrieval if needed… but he never seems to need it. He looks at my Lab Reports on his computer. Says something about how much I weigh and my high blood pressure reading. He does not talk to me but only looks at his computer and says, “Oh, I see your cholesterol is a little high, and your blood pressure and a number of other things. I will make you appointments with an Urologist, a Neurologist, a Cardiologist, a Podiatrist, a Dermatologist, a Psychiatrist, an Orthopedist, an Endocrinologist, a Nephrologist, an Ophthalmologist, a Hematologist, a Radiologist, and an Otolaryngologists.
I will be very busy for the next 17 months. He has 179 other patients to see today at 2.3 minute intervals…and he is running 2 hours behind now at 11A M…
He said other than these few referrals I look pretty healthy from the charts, lab reports and computer read-outs…not by actually looking or examining me.
“We’ll see you again in six months and see how you are doing.” He’s gone. Looks like I am good to go.
I need to get out of this doctor’s office and head over to my side of the Pond and have some Cuban Coffee and Sweet Potato Pie and work on my calendar scheduling for the next 17 months.
“It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick.” Jesus
