MELON SHOPPING
I recently read the ‘Five Sure Ways to Pick a Melon’
– Inspect it for defects
– Check the color…no dull looking color
– Pick one that is heavy for it’s size
– Tap it with the palm of your hand…thump it
– Smell it… it should smell fragrant near where the
vine was attached
How can a person do all these things and still come home with a bad watermelon or cantaloupe? Though we have used the thump, sniff, shake, rattle, and roll… a lousy melon.
Mates have been chosen using the same five criteria as for melons… and some of them have turned out to be bad choices as well.
Perhaps it is as scriptures teach us: “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)
I’m headed over to the other side of the Pond to have some Cuban Coffee and Cranberry-Orange Scones and water my Cantaloupe vines.
