MAJORITY OPINION
A democracy is supposedly based on majority opinion. Democracy from its Latin and Greek roots means ‘the people rule.’ So the idea is that through the process of voting, or some other representation; the majority of the people and their vote or opinion rule or have their way.
This system works well until the opinion of the majority is not necessarily our personal opinion. We are then at odds with the opposition by majority consensus. It is a very good system of equality until the majority prefers principles and ideas that are contrary to an order and system that is higher than democracy, which is the Kingdom of God. The reign, or rule, of God is above majority opinion.
“Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority shares in it.” Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910)
Or, can a perceived right be right because the majority believes it is? Not necessarily. Anything opposed to the rule of God by majority or otherwise is still opposed to God even though democratic.
