LULA
My mother’s name is Lula. April first was her birthday. She would be 109 years old today if she were still living. She was no fool.
As a dedicated wife to my dad and mother to me and my brothers and a hard working woman her whole life, she was an example to us all. She had faith in God and with my dad taught our family to have faith.
In thinking about her on her birthday this verse came to my mind: “I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience as my ancestors did, when I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day. Remembering your tears, I long to see you so that I may be filled with joy. I recall your sincere faith that first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and now, I am convinced, is in you also.” (2 Timothy 1:3-5)
I too ‘recall the sincere faith’ of grandma Jessie, my mother Lula and ‘am convinced it is in me also’ and is now in my children. How I thank the Lord for godly ancestors.
A woman in the crowd raised her voice and said, “Blessed is the womb that bore you and the one who nursed you!”
He said, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.” Jesus
