KEEPING OUR BALANCE
For as long as we can, we should try to keep our balance. With our feet, our speaking, our thinking, our doing, our sleeping, our working, our emotions, our relationships, our marriages, our parenting, our businesses… and our checkbooks.
And we should certainly balance our spiritual life. One approach is this: if our hands are in the air, our feet should be on the earth. If both our hands and feet are in the air and we are levitating or floating, we should pay closer attention. There is little traction or grounding in this state. I believe we are called to be planted and balanced. There is not much space for spiritual floating. And, I love the supernatural, but I do not care much for shiny religious sailboats without anchors.
Perhaps what requires the most balance is when we receive a compliment.
“The Lord demands accurate scales and balances; he sets the standards for fairness.” (Proverbs 16:11)
