HOW WE BELONG
In yesterday’s Journal entry I wrote concerning the Body of Christ and how it is made up of many parts though it is one body. This, of course, is a metaphor of the human body to describe the Body of Christ: All of those who belong to Jesus, the Head of the Body. “The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 12:12-13) Our sameness is the Spirit… the Holy Spirit.
The human body is used to give a physical picture of a spiritual reality. It is a reality where we may see the Body of Christ contextually as we understand our own bodies: many parts making up a complete whole. It is the natural and spiritual combined or nature and super nature.
Deng Ming-Doa, artist and author wrote: ‘In nature there is no alienation. Everything belongs.’
It seems it has been easy to separate humans from nature as if we are not part of a natural world as are birds, trees, animals, fish, rivers, rocks and dirt. The real alienation among humans is the result of humans not belonging to nature. I believe if we could settle our natural belonging, we might also settle our spiritual belonging. We all fit and belong if we fit and belong to Jesus in gift, fit and function determined by the Father. We belong physically and spiritually.
“I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one…as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.” Jesus
