HOW CAN WE KNOW
So much of the Bible is big. Big statements. Big concepts. Big information. For example, Paul, an apostle, wrote: “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16, NKJV). Through His Son Jesus, God made everything we can see, plus all the things we can’t see. Mind boggling big statement. So how can we know this stuff?
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible”(Hebrews 11:1-3).
To be able to see what we do not see… hear what we do not hear… know what we do not know… is by faith. And that’s easy to say, write and quote… but not always so easy to have as reality. I think we can know what we don’t know when we no longer need proof, but because we believe it and no one can substantiate that “the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.” Seems to me we believe that or we don’t.
There you have it.
“But if you don’t believe me when I tell you about earthly things, how can you possibly believe if I tell you about heavenly things?” Jesus
