HELP SOMEONE
Rumi (1207-1273) Persian scholar, poet and mystic wrote:
“Be a lamp or a lifeboat or a ladder. Help someone’s soul to heal. Walk out of your house like a shepherd.”
With his three ‘L’s’ of lamp, lifeboat and ladder, I thought of the three that Jesus used: light, life and love.
With these qualities built into our characters we can possibly help two others: ourselves and someone else. As we are developing into this kind of person, we will leave our houses like shepherds. Without becoming a new person, we might become a shepherd who is unable to find the lost sheep? A lamp, lifeboat and ladder and light, life and love help us find each other.
“I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep. I have other sheep, too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd.” Jesus
