HEARING WITH FAITH
It is not just hearing that will break the Faith Famine. It is “hearing with faith,” says the apostle Paul in the Galatian letter, or more literally, “hearing of faith.” Faith comes by hearing. Hearing has it’s own faith. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” Until this happens what appears to be hearing can be just more information. Our Western ears are full of “informational hearing.” Faith hearing is Doing as well as hearing. Until we do what we hear we are in famine. We have the bread of men stacked up high, but little power, little sustaining or satisfaction when it is eaten. This bread seems to only fill the religious belly and can still cause a Faith Famine. The apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, that some were “always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” This can cause us to starve to death in our Spirit and be loaded up in our minds. Knowledge of truth is accessed by faith. The loaf of the Lord is consumed with obedience in mind.
Faith in the Bread breaks the famine, not knowledge about the Bread. We need to hear the Bread. Famine is sustained when we decide to “live by bread alone” instead of by “every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.”
“For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. I am the Bread of Life.” Jesus
