HEALING WHAT’S BROKEN
Healing is an old word that originally meant, “bringing all the pieces back together again.” The word has the meaning of wholeness. “It often refers to the process of moving toward a desired intervention, an outcome, and a process, and at times, all three. It also describes an ability or power or energy and cleansing of grief, trouble, or evil. The concept is relevant in a wide range of disciplines, including medicine, nursing, psychology, public health, education, religion, and spirituality. Healing occurs in multiple dimensions—physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, familial, social, communal, and environmental.” (Medical Encyclopedia)
Broken: ‘having been fractured or damaged and no longer in one-piece or in working order. Or (of a person) having given up all hope; despairing.’ (Oxford Dictionary)
I have heard it said, and have said it myself: ‘It seems like a whole lot of stuff is broken… religion, virtue, politics, civility, economics, weather patterns, racism, trust, education, media…’ etc. Preparations have been made for believers and through them for others for broken stuff:
Peacemakers: putting back together what has come apart.
Healing: the gift of healing and mending what is broken or diseased.
Miracles: the gift and faith to see all broken things restored by the power of God.
These gifts and others are to fix what’s broken and to enjoy what is not broken.
“These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Jesus
