HASTEN TO GOD
Thomas Kelly (1893-1941) Quaker mystic and educator wrote in “Hasten unto God” of the need for Friends (Quakers) to be firm in their spiritual foundation:
“The times are severe, the need is great. And we must hasten: we all agree. But whither shall we hasten? Two directions we must hasten in order to plumb the depths and scale the heights of life. We must hasten unto God; and we must hasten into the world. But the first is the prime need; though the world be aflame by its own blindness and hate, and narrow ideals. We must first hasten unto God. Those whose heads have not rested in the bosom of God are not yet ready to be saviors of the world.”
The word I got on this many years ago from the Lord was direct and clearly for me: ‘If you are going to stand in front of others you must first sit in front of me.’ I still believe it.
Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) British preacher said: “Keep the best company. Be much with those who are much with God. Let them be your choicest companions who have made Christ their choicest companion.”
“And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Jesus
