GROWING LIKE A WEED
The definition of Growing Like a Weed means to grow very quickly. We often hear this remark concerning a child, “She is growing like a weed.” This is all well and good in its innocent use. But when it takes on a literal/biblical application… it is a different story.
In The Parable of Tares… the false wheat… a tare is called darnel (or a weed resembling wheat) and is often confused with wheat while it grows among the wheat (as in the parable). Jesus tells his workers that they look so much alike that they must be sorted out at the harvest and until then they grow up together. The false can look very much like the real.
Weeds do grow quickly and so if a church, a political party, a business, a social media presence, a ministry, or whatever…. is growing like a weed…. It may be wise to carefully look over the growth to see if it is the real deal… or a fake. A weed or wheat.
Here in California to Grow like a weed or like growing weed…means a whole different thing… but even growing weed (marijuana) one must look out for weeds in the weed. This is getting too confusing.
“Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather up the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them up; but gather the wheat into my barn.” Jesus
