GREATER PRAYER
I have long found great comfort during those days of dryness and faithlessness in prayer by claiming the strength of this text:
“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groaning’s too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” (Roman 8:26-27)
There are times when we pray, or try to pray, when the resident power of the Holy Spirit takes over. Though we may feel flat and fumbling…the Spirit has taken over with “deep groaning” on our behalf. What a Spirit of mercy. This is obviously greater prayer than we can hardly imagine, plan or program. Some times it is clearly best to just stay out of the way. Go, Spirit, go.
“And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” Jesus
