GOOD MEASURE

The well known and often quoted text of Luke 6:38 says, “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” This text is almost always used concerning money.

It seems to me the principle is much larger than money. If we give ourselves to study, prayer, more love, kindness, contemplation, fun and laughter, healthy hobbies and healthy living, proper eating, right exercise, forgiveness, or any number of things… if we give to these things, it will also be given to us… “in good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, put into our lap.”

By giving into the various spheres of our lives we should and can expect a reasonable return… it will be given back to us. For with the measure we use, it will be measured back to us. What we put into it…we will get out of it. All investment seems the same. It is just a logical conclusion.

“Pay attention to what you’re hearing! You will be evaluated by the same standard with which you do your evaluating, and still more will be given to you, because whoever has something, will have more given to him. But whoever has nothing, even what he has will be taken away.” Jesus
