GOES WITHOUT SAYING
When we say or hear someone say… it goes without saying… it usually means we are about to hear it said anyway.
The phrase becomes only an introduction into what someone is about to say as they also say it goes without saying. If something truly goes without saying… it would not be said.
I hear this said often when someone wants to press in a point of opinion concerning philosophy, politics, theology and such. Without making immediate interjection of thought or idea the person says, it goes without saying. I suppose this is a way to soften what we want and intend to say… it goes without saying… then we say it.
Glad we got that all straightened out.
