GOD KNOWS OUR HEARTS
Dallas Willard (1935-2013) wrote, “The Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). This profound and pervasive prophetic wisdom was stingingly applied to some “righteous persons” of Jesus’s day. “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of others,” he said, “but God knows your hearts; for what is prized by human beings is an abomination in the sight of God” (Luke 16:15).”
We might justify our actions and behaviors and get away with it before others…but the Father sees our hearts and knows exactly our motives and intentions and whether they are pure or impure.
“What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” Jesus
