GIFTS AND PRAYER
The Holy Spirit Gifts and Prayer are an essential combination for best results. Before we do anything, our first prayer should be for a gift to enhance, to sharpen, to desire, and start some level of prayer. Gifts, such as desire, are an honest way to approach the Lord. We should assume that we do not always want to pray as a first choice. Using a gift can be much easier than prayer.
Nothing of our own will bring the presence and beauty of God except our ability to ask in prayer for our gifts to achieve the desired results. Asking for gifts should be what we ask for first. The Father is ever ready to give faith, silence, peace, joy, and expectation. Asking for a place or destination for a time of prayer and perhaps even for a day or two of prayer before using our gifts is wise… if we have the opportunity.
As we seek gifts for entry into prayer then we can even seek further and different gifts for sustaining in prayer. For example, asking for the entry gift of desire for prayer can quickly move to silence and meditation as desire is fulfilled. We are on another plane and track in our prayer simply by having asked for the first, or entry, gift.
Often in times of asking it is good to ask for lightness, joy and even humor. This has the tendency to produce a level of sincerity without religious and sentimental sobriety. The gifts of joy and humor can cause prayer to explode into life and propel us into positive ways to see and hear the Lord with freshness.
“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Jesus
