GETTING CLEANED UP
In the “Priestly Prayer” as it is called in John 17, we read, “Sanctify them in truth. Your word is truth” (17:17).
The word is truth, as well as life. But it is so much more. The words make us clean. Jesus said, “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you” (John 15:3). We are already clean in this sense, “He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean, and you are clean, but not all of you. For he knew the one who was betraying him, for this reason he said, “Not all of you are clean’”(John 13:10-11). At the foot washing the heart is made clean by washing the feet. The washing is a picture of washing the heart with the words of Jesus.
The word of truth is not only the Bible or scripture, but is also the daily communication of the word by the Word into hearts, minds and spirits. Regardless of our condition, condemnation or circumstance… a few revelations of the word or Word and we are in Truth again. We are clean again.
“Sanctify them in truth. Your word is truth.” Jesus
