GENEROUS LEADERSHIP
To be “a follower of the Way” (term for early Christians but a term for us as well) is to learn that a Spirit filled person is a generous person because the Holy Spirit is generous, Jesus is generous and the Father is generous… the generous trinity.
When a Christian becomes a mate/parent/ leader/shepherd/elder of others it must be assumed they have a generous heart. The book of Titus says: “Overseers must be ready to welcome guests, love what is good, be wise, live right, and be holy and self-controlled” (Titus 1:8). It must also be assumed that this person is generous with time, empathy, compassion, money and wisdom.
Priya Parker, author, uses a phrase I really admire: ‘generous authority.’ She states: “A gathering run on generous authority is run with a strong, confident hand, but it is run selflessly, for the sake of others. Generous authority is imposing in a way that serves your guests.”
Things of the Kingdom way are generous in people, practice and purpose. This is the way of the Lord.
“I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep, and my sheep know me, just as the Father knows me, and I know the Father. I give my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not in this flock, and I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock and one shepherd.” Jesus
