GAMIFICATION
Internet’s most popular sites are based on a ‘grade system’ or a trophy winner, likes, or a judged and rated idea of approval from others we do not even know… Whose crazy idea is this? All of this is clever law keeping and performance…we are keeping score on ourselves and each other on how we are doing… or not doing… based on drivel and condemnation.
It might be little different than the way we approach ‘God’ and trying to please ‘God’… without ever seeing a Father who loves us as his children. This is not just media performance and popularity but transfers over to the same principles in trying to be ‘good enough’ and ‘performing enough Bible studies and prayer meetings’ or giving enough money, serving on committees, whatever… to ‘please God.’
This is now called ‘gamification’ which means:
“Gamification is the application of game-playing elements to another type of activity. Common gamification elements include points, timers, badges, and leaderboards.” (Mindy Jackson, ‘Training Industry)
Law is law. If we put a ribbon on a pig’s nose… it is still a pig. Grace is grace. It is just not part of this platform. All of this personal scoring is crazy. I don’t need some marshmallow; chicken broth goofy media site to tell me who I am. If we need to keep score… we lost.
“You like to appear righteous in public, but God knows your hearts. What this world honors is detestable in the sight of God.” Jesus
