FULL LIFE
We are people that live full lives with full schedules at full speed. Git er’ done. But often Instead of a fulfilled life, we have a life filled full. I determined years ago as I caught myself all cranked up in my own self-importance, that a Day-Timer (phone calendar) that was full and running over was an indicator of a life that was full and running over. Then I learned there is a Full Life and Fool Life.
‘When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.’ (Gurwinder) I did change over the years, but still had the tendency to over schedule and over work. I think several things can possibly cause this: One is the subtle grinding of a works mindset. If I work harder…the Father will be more pleased with me. Another is the exampling of religious activities hoping to inspire others to ‘good works,’ a religious spirit. There are many others, maybe shame, fear, insecurity, orphan spirit… if I’m busy I must be useful and valuable. I think those who are in paid positions in some kind of ministry are the most vulnerable because there is the tendency to constantly perform to convince others you are worth what they are paying you to do. It’s an awful system.
But, I haven’t gotten anything done today. I’ve been in the Produce Department trying to open one of those blasted plastic bags. So, I’m headed over to the other side of the Pond for some Cuban Coffee and Yogurt Covered Pretzels. I was going to have a Cheese Stick but I couldn’t get the wrapper off that thing either. My calendar is not as full as it once was.
“Be especially careful when you are trying to be good so that you don’t make a performance out of it. It might be good theater, but the God who made you won’t be applauding. When you do something for someone else, don’t call attention to yourself.” (The Message) Jesus
