FRIENDS IN HIGH PLACES
Recently in the night I heard this phrase: “I’ve got friends in high places…” I immediately thought of a song a few years back by Garth Brooks, “I got friends in low places.” This was the opposite.
What came to me was ‘the cloud of witnesses’ as friends in high places:
“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” (Hebrews 12:1-3)
Now that is having friends in high places!
“This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.” Jesus
