FOUND THINGS
I am still thinking on yesterday’s Journal entry about the Lost Coin. Luke 15 is often called the parable of ‘Lost Things’ because it involves a Lost Sheep, a Lost Coin and a Lost Son. Each of the three-part parable tells of the loss, the search, the remedy of the search, the finding of the lost and rejoicing of those who recovered what was lost.
I have often thought it could also be called the parable of ‘Found Things.’ Each section ends well with the joy of finding what was lost. What excitement might come to any of us, who might transpose this parable and see the lost sheep as recovery of some part of our livelihood, and the lost coin as recovery of lost money and the lost son as recovery to sonship, or right relationship, with the Father. These are truly Found Things when they are recovered.
“Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.” Jesus
