FOOD FEASTING
One of the areas of our lives that can frequently be presented is the pageantry of food. Since this is something we usually do 2-3 times daily we have many opportunities to present food. The consumption of food is not only essential but it is also a true joy to most people. So much so that obesity (and morbid obesity, meaning really super fat) are very serious health issues (physically and psychologically) in the United Sates and the West. Even so, perhaps a major solving of this problem could be the understanding of food as a presentation and gift.
This would involve proper preparation of food and the beauty of presented food at table. To see food without the chaos and disorder of ‘fast food’ and with the beauty and order of correct nutrition is pulling ahead in the fight on fat.
Food should cause us to feel like celebrities. Those who prepare, serve and consume it should feel the honor of distinction. It does not matter how much or what, but it should be prepared, served and consumed in dignity and celebration. Without eating ‘at the table’ we risk removing celebration, presentation and pageantry from food and the preparation of meals. Food then becomes only a function and not a feast.
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” Jesus
