FLAG WAVERS
There is little difference in which flag we are flying if there is as much pride in waving no flag as waving a particular flag. As it has almost always been when a cause or voice is raised, there is another that is opposed to that one.
That is perhaps as it should be because to not have voted is to have voted, to have not spoken up is to have spoken and to remain quiet is to make a loud reply. The ego is propelled and fed by both pride and position. Whether waving or not waving we are waving something.
We have responsibility to make decisions on our thoughts and actions. Neither self-rightness nor self-righteousness are good reasons for our choices. Conviction is a good reason. Without deep well thought out opinion we become puppets, straw people and herded sheep. We should be about as easy to herd as chickens or cats are with our convictions. It is not whether we wave or don’t wave; it is knowing why we do either.
