FIRST-PARTY FRAUD
“It seems plenty of rich young shoppers are comfortable stealing from even richer companies—as long as it happens online. Some of the same people who probably can’t stand that the toothpaste is behind lock and key at their local drugstore—since they’d never shove it in their pocket without paying for it—don’t seem to have the same qualms about falsely claiming packages never arrived, disputing legit credit card purchases from online retailers, or saying they never made sports bets that didn’t go their way,” (Axios)
A survey conducted by antifraud tech-maker Socure in December 2024 found that 55% of Gen Zers and 49% of Millennials who earn more than $100,000/year admitted they’d stolen from an online retailer in the last year, committing what’s known as first-party fraud in the antifraud biz.
Most consider the crime they committed with a few mouse clicks victimless: Socure found that 63% of first-party fraudsters figured large retailers could afford to eat the cost of the legitimate claims they disputed and 46% even viewed their pilferage as consumer advocacy.” (Morning Brew)
Our call is to bring the Good News of Jesus and the Kingdom of God to people who are “thieves, or greedy, drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10) We must live and bring a message that forms and transforms the conscience.
“God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.” Jesus
