FINDING TREASURE
Finding treasure is an interesting mental and emotional development. Often when a person lands upon treasure of some kind they might be inclined to be quiet, think crafty thoughts and perhaps even quickly put treasure information in as secret a place as possible. So, nobody comes along and gets it.
Jesus tells the story like this: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field. Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!” (Matthew 13:44-46) These both lend the idea of being a wise and clever person who knows what to do when finding a good deal on treasure. I personally think that’s just a good business person making a good business decision.
The story does tell us the ‘afterwards.’ But Kingdom principles would press us to want to share the treasure and the pearl with others. It is right at this point we learn if we have treasure or treasure has us.
“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” Jesus
