FASTING
I know it is difficult to fast from our Phone because it has now become an essential piece of our anatomy and is connected to us no matter where we go or what we do, it is fastened to our bodies as an ever-attached tendril. (Who could have known after losing our tails a few million years ago that we would gain a new piece of anatomy) If we cannot control this appendage it becomes little different than heroin, cocaine, meth, alcohol, nicotine, food, computers, sports channels, news channels, Facebook or Netflix… or anything else we cannot control, maybe worse. Whatever prohibits us from fasting matters little if it has us snared.
I frankly do not know if it is possible to explore any other kind of fasting unless it includes a Phone Fast. Though this thing may hang on us, be in a pocket, a purse, a holster, a clip or around our neck… it seems it is present… at all times. If we can turn if off, mute it, strangle it or silence it in some way then we may be able to peacefully rest in Fasting of some kind. Fasting is abstinence from food or drink or both for health, ritualistic, religious, or ethical purposes. It is to abstain from something to obtain something.
“And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth; that is the only reward they will ever get. But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” Jesus
