RECIPE # 15 LULA’S MILK TOAST
This great recipe starts out with Lula’s Sour Dough Biscuits. The warm milk is added later.
Ingredients:
Lula’s Sour Dough Biscuits
1 package of Yeast
1 Cup Warm Water
2 Cups Buttermilk
Three-fourths Cup Oil
One-Quarter Cup Sugar
4 teaspoons Baking Powder
One-Fourth teaspoon Baking Soda
2 teaspoons Salt
1 teaspoon Vanilla (in milk)
7 Cups Flour
Directions:
Dissolve Yeast in warm water. Combine all ingredients and place in covered bowl in refrigerator if made in advance (up to several days). No need to let rise but will probably be lighter and higher if allowed to rise for a while. (Let refrigerated dough rise in pan (greased) 1 hour.) Pinch off enough to form biscuit sized amounts and place on a cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees about 15 minutes. (Also makes great Cinnamon Rolls).
For Milk Toast: split open biscuits and spread with butter; sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and toast until crispy. Put four halves in a bowl and add hot milk sweetened with sugar and add a teaspoon of vanilla. Cover the biscuits with the hot milk. Best Milk Toast ever!
