FAITH FAMINE
A clear warning must be given about the famine that is in our land. In fact, it is a famine on many nations. Nearly everyone is “third world” status in this famine. It is a Faith Famine. This situation seems to have a progression and a solution.
Famine is the absence of food as well as the absence of blessing. One can have food and not have blessing. But, one cannot be without food and have blessing. Not for long.
Famine has another dimension. As we read in the Book of Amos, “… not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, but rather for hearing the words of the Lord.” This is the process: it starts with a famine for “hearing the words of the Lord.” It’s much like it was in Samuel’s day, “and the word of the Lord was rare in those days and visions were infrequent.” That’s what starts and sustains famine. Notice it’s not reading the words. It is hearing the words. And, if we hear then the Lord must have a Voice as surely as we have an ear. So, listening is the issue. A Faith Famine is caused by not listening to the Voice of the Lord. “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing the words of Christ,” wrote the apostle Paul. If the “word of the Lord” is rare and “listening” is rare… there is famine.
“For I have not spoken on my own authority; but the Father who sent me gave me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. And I know that his command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told me, so I speak.” Jesus
