EXPECTING HARVEST
First the seed, then the stalk, then the head …the parable reads. This is normal growth. I find it interesting that the last to be formed is the head. I also know that it is absolutely true. Our mind is forever being formed.
The apostle Paul bears this out when he writes, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
We first transform our bodies (as a living sacrifice?). This is spiritual worship. Most of us would think we are about there at this point. Then Paul adds, don’t get caught up in this world stuff but be transformed in your mind. This is where the head (mind) is formed: “by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
First the seed, and then the stalk and then the head.
“Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.” Jesus
