WE HAVE HEARD AND KNOW
We need the ability to hear the Voice of the Lord. What is critical is the ability to hear for ourselves. We cannot live solely on what a parent, pastor, parrot, poet, prophet, priest, preacher or professor has said. We must hear for ourselves. Perhaps they heard incorrectly, or differently, than we will hear.
When Jesus met the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well and had conversation with her she went back into her village and said, “Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done, this is not the Christ, is it?” (Gospel of John 4:28-29) The men went to ‘hear His words’ and ‘many believed because of His words’ (vs. 40-41). And then they said to the Samaritan woman what each one of us must hear and digest, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is indeed the Savior of the world.” (v.42). That is the basis of a new reformation. It is when we no longer believe because of what someone else heard but because we have heard the voice of God on our own and for ourselves and believe it by faith.
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” Jesus
