DIVIDED

We are living in a very divided time is the USA. Every segment of our social structures seems to be divided on opinion. The Catholic Church is very much divided into the older Conservative Catholics and the newer under Pope Francis are liberal Catholics. The Protestant churches are divided in the same way. Some are what is called Conservative (whatever that means) and others are Liberal… or the new word being used is Progressive. The political arena is also completely divided into the Liberal and Conservative… or Democrat and Republican.

We are like two peoples living together on the same land with nothing in common but the land. Both sides feeling they can clearly articulate their given perspective, position and opinion. Of course, America is famous for having this distinction and freedom but there is a cost. Quoting Jesus from the Gospels:

“Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.”

“And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.”

“If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.”

“For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three.”

“Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls.”

“A divided kingdom ends in ruin. A city or home divided against itself cannot stand.” Jesus
