DETERMINATION BY CHOICE
Determination of life’s most important decisions is often a matter of making a free-will choice concerning that issue. But not always, because sometimes there are circumstances beyond our control that make decisions for us. It is very important to try and stay away from, “I had no choice…” or “What else could I do?” There are many times when we do have another choice and there is something else to do. Trouble is… it might be a much more difficult choice.
Seth Godin, entrepreneur and author once wrote:
“If “no” is not an option…
Then neither is “yes.”
Enrollment requires choice.”
If there is only yes or only no… there is no decision to make. Or as Thomas Hobson (1544-1631) originated the now famous phrase: “I’ll give you a choice: take it or leave it”, wherein “leaving it” is strongly undesirable. The phrase is known as Hobson’s Choice. It is not an absence of choice, rather choosing one thing or nothing. Then determination of choice becomes critical.
“The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.” Jesus
