COME AND SEE
At a city called Sychar in Samaria, Jesus stopped at a well for some water. This well was called Jacob’s Well and was on ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. There was a woman of Samaria that also came to the well to get water and Jesus and this woman had a little talk about ethnicity, water, living water, thirst and a “well of water springing up to eternal life.” The smart woman said, “Sir, give me this water, so I will not be thirsty, and I won’t have to come all the way down here to draw this dang water.”
Then the discussion turned to her husband and she informed the Lord that she had no husband. He informed her that she has had five husbands and the dude she is now living with is not her husband. The woman replied to Jesus, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.”
Jesus then revealed to her that he is the Messiah the one who is called Christ. She left her water pot and started heading back to town to tell the men, “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ? They went out of the town and were coming to him.”
The text says, “Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. And many more believed because of his word. They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”
“If you had asked I would have given you living water.” Jesus
