CHANGING OTHERS
“Be not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.” Thomas à Kempis (1380-1471), from ‘The Imitation of Christ.’
I suppose I approach this not as an either/or situation. Those who teach, preach, write, encourage, visit, minister, work, help, and so forth, do so to present a way of believing and serving others. It may help change those being served but it can also radically change us. As a matter of fact, I don’t know if we can change much without being engaged with others. I am more apt to make myself as I wish to be by sharing and interchange with you.
That said; it is still mostly up to me to make me as I wish to be. If I can change it may influence you to change as well.
“For I have given you an example that you also should do just as I have done to you.” Jesus
