CAREFUL WALKING
Those who have sentimental ideas about the attractiveness of sheep are simply people who have never been around them. Sheep are unstable, easily frightened, moving in mass without any seeming evidence of individual choice or direction. When frightened, they usually by intuitive reaction, huddle together, cluster and wait.
This is equally true of frightened people. It is herd reaction, which makes one as easily misled as led. The easiest place for an individual to hide is in the midst of a crowd, which also means that the easiest thing lost on earth is the individual and individuality.
The way to life is not the easy wide way, not the easy way of the head, it is narrow and the gate is equally narrow, but it is always wide enough because there is not usually a crowd trying to get in. This path is never generally popular and never will be. I am not saying it is without joy and excitement, and that it is not rewarding and satisfying; it is, but it is still work, hard work, and careful walking. We must choose our steps wisely.
