BISCUITS AND GRAVY
Recently I had a dream in which my wife Roz and I were at a Cowboy type wedding. The guests (and bride and groom) were in Western attire and the decorations were all cowboy/ranch. The crowd was mostly cowboys, ranchers, farmers, oil field workers, plus family and friends.
The couple getting married were people we knew… in their mid-twenties… and both cowboy to the core. It was a delightful atmosphere. After the ceremony, the bride and groom went to the “cake table” where the tradition is to feed each other the first slices of the cake. Instead of cake they had chosen biscuits and sausage gravy. The hosts had pre-cut the biscuits and gravy and for them and they fed each other a sample and then ate the remaining biscuits and gravy on their plate. Then all the guests were served small plates of biscuits and sausage gravy. The groom said, “Y’all dig in, there is as much as you want.” Everyone was enjoying more helpings of the biscuits and gravy. They were delicious and a big hit with the guests. (End of dream)
I awoke thinking biscuits and sausage gravy would make an excellent substitute for the traditional white wedding cake.
