BIRTH OF FAITH
In the night recently I heard these terms: ‘Pregnant Faith or Birth of Faith.’
Pregnant faith is when we carry a certain expectation and yet it is still not time for delivery. This is often caused by listening or believing a message of “one of these days” or “it won’t be long” the carrot-in-front-of- the-horse theology. Though faith must be formed and nourished, it must also come to full-term like a pregnancy. If it doesn’t we live with faith that is always expecting. The Proverbs tell us: “Hope deferred makes the heart sick…” (13:12).
Pregnant faith is replaced by birthed faith (reality). What was hoped and prayed for is now present. A person can only be pregnant so long and then it is time for the baby. If we live our whole life with pregnant faith, I think we have missed more than the baby shower.
We don’t need a Gender Reveal Party (I had never heard that term until last year) because gender was revealed hundreds of years ago to the prophets.
“A child has been born to us; God has given a son to us. He will be responsible for leading the people. His name will be Wonderful Counselor, Powerful God, Father Who Lives Forever, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) We are talking about faith, not people. What needs to be revealed is faith in Jesus Christ the Son of God. If we continue in pregnant faith we are much like the Jews waiting for the Messiah. The wait is over the Son was born. It’s all here, now.
“When a woman gives birth to a baby, she has pain, because her time has come. But when her baby is born, she forgets the pain, because she is so happy that a child has been born into the world.” Jesus
