BECOMING LITTLE
The familiar truth of the kingdom is to ‘become like little children.’ This requires attentive obedience on our part. When we become as ‘little as the little ones’ we are remaining humble and teachable and not filled with our own self-importance. We are ‘little’ in our own eyes.
The model for this ‘littleness’ is the Trinitarian God who does not allow any one of the three to become larger or more important than the others. Humility is needed to enter the kingdom of such a Trinity. There are no loud-mouths and big shots here, there is no place for religious robes, costumes and outer garb, the smells and bells of man’s religion; this is a place to be little and broken and hidden. Humility shapes our hunger for God because it is another name for love. Our love becomes large as we become little.
“And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom.” Jesus
