ADDING SOMETHING BETTER
Wendell Berry, farmer, writer, and academic wrote:
“The past is our definition. We may strive with good reason to escape it, or to escape what is bad in it. But we will escape it only by adding something better to it.”
Such wisdom. The only way we can make anything better is by adding something better. We of course may get rid of those things that prevent things from being better (i.e., debt, unforgiveness, resentment, etc.) but even so; if we do not add something better…things will remain considerably the same.
The telling of the Gospel Story is telling Good News. It is adding something much better to the daily downward story we so often hear. We know what’s better and add it to our story.
“Until John the Baptist, the law of Moses and the messages of the prophets were your guides. But now the Good News of the Kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is eager to get in.” Jesus
