A LITTLE CORNER
“I have sought for happiness everywhere, but I have found it nowhere except in a little corner with a little book.” Thomas à Kempis (1380-1471)
This is so contrary to Facebook, Twitter and a half-dozen other ‘social media’ persuasions and cultural pressures. Network and ‘join the group’ are the encouragements we hear constantly. By so doing we all read the same books, articles, blogs and posts that everyone else reads.
The little corner and little book of silence and contemplation, meditation and quiet thinking are almost thought to be strange, if not anti-social. I personally simply do not know what I would do without my little corner and my little book. For me it is a great happiness as well as it was for Thomas à Kempis.
We will always have to stay inside the lines if we cannot read between the lines.
“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Jesus
