CHANGEMAKING

Someone has said, “Changemaking happens when people fall in love with a different version of the future.” This is a great truth. Without a different version of the future we can, and should, expect exactly the same version we now have.

Making changes is always a good idea until we have to make changes. Everyone wants to be visionary and forward seeking until they are asked to change the vision and look forward to something new and different. Fact is; few of us really want change. We would rather just talk about it and read about it. To do something differently means we do something in a way in which we are not accustomed… that’s scary. Habits seem to be a type of safe boundary for us.

Perhaps the quote above has the secret: ‘when we fall in love with a different version of the future’ because falling in love is as difficult as change itself. But this New Year will be like the last if we do not deeply purpose the changes that are important to us. It seems to be a critical time for change and change will stretch us.

“Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.” Jesus
