THE GOOD FIGHT

The word that came to me the other night was “Put fight in your faith and faith in your fight.” The fights we are in are continuing battles. It appears the social and cultural patterns are different than they have ever been… and true, every generation has said the same and had similar concerns. The faith needed for the fight in our ancestor’s generation is just like ours: all we can muster.

Paul, an apostle, wrote to Timothy, ‘fight the good fight” and later in the same letter, ‘Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith.’

Faith without fight in it stands little chance and any fight without faith in it is likewise without much chance. The more literal sense of Paul’s letter says, ‘fight the good fight of the faith.’ ‘The faith’ in the surrounding verses is faith in Jesus Christ. That is our fight. That is our faith. The only good fight is the one we win.
