OUR BEST COVER

The apostle Peter wrote, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”
Love does cover a multitude of sins, both the sins of the one loving and the sins of the one who is being loved.

Wayne Grudem comments, “Where love abounds in a fellowship of Christians, many small offences, and even some large ones, are readily overlooked and forgotten. But where love is lacking, every word is viewed with suspicion, every action is liable to misunderstanding, and conflicts abound – to Satan’s perverse delight.”

Our best cover for sin is love because is covers my sins and covers those I have sinned against. If love is not present in our relationships we must immediately ask what is present. Often it is religion, rules, recipes or an Rx of some kind replacing the difficult position of love. Our best cover is love.
