October 27, 2016 6 November 2016 CORN SEED Saving back a portion of the current crop for sowing of the next crop is called seed corn. It is also a colloquial way of describing saving and preparedness for the future. Without setting aside seed for no other purpose but to plant the next crop is to be assured of a smaller or no crop the next season. Paul, an apostle, writes, “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.” The promise is very important. The Lord will provide for our needs (food) and seed for sowing (seed corn) if we are generous in our giving. The wisdom of giving is that we “will be enriched in every way.” Those who belong to the Lord give generously. “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Jesus
