TWO INTO ONE I
There is a persistent theme in scripture about two things becoming one thing by union. The idea is that two lovers by their relationship become one lover. They are still two but their love is one. This seems easily understood.
Then there is the idea of a man and woman becoming ‘one flesh’ though they are two, ‘the two shall become one. (Matthew 19:5-6). Most married people made vows to this effect and though the phrase is familiar, the reality is not as familiar or easy as ‘the ceremony.’ Ceremony is not the real deal. Although two things become one in a ceremonial sense, they unfortunately might remain two in an actual sense.
When we are encouraged to have ‘the mind of Christ’ (1 Corinthians 2:16), we are making effort to have two minds become one by union. It is the desire for union that creates the union. What makes any two things become one is desire and love for union. When this happens neither of the two have ‘their side,’ but they each have the center. When mature, it is difficult to know either of the two separately because they have become one.
“Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Jesus
