SANCTUARY II
In yesterday’s Journal entry, I briefly outlined the change from the Temple (tabernacle, sacred place, holy place) where the Lord dwelled in a fixed structure on earth beginning with Exodus 25:8, “They are to make a sanctuary for me so that I may dwell among them.”
In the New Covenant with Jesus and the giving of the Holy Spirit, we (humans) are the temple of the Lord, his dwelling place. Jesus said, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode (dwelling place) with him” (John 14:23). Luke, wrote, “The God who made the world and everything in it—he is Lord of heaven and earth—does not live in shrines made by hands” (Acts 17:24).
Paul, an apostle, made the clearest reference in 1 Corinthians 3:16, “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?”
We are the Sanctuary of the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I have no idea what it might mean to capture God in a box, a building, a house of God, a church building, a tabernacle, a temple…? That the Lord is even allowing anyone to think or assume the act of capture, place, permanence, location, whatever… is an abstract and artificial thought for me.
The Lord also said referring to us:
“My house shall be called a house of prayer.” Jesus
